LMHA is excited to announce that for the first time in its 44 year history, we will offer one FEMALE REC team in every age division in the 2018-19 season.

Last year, our female rec teams operated at (or just below) maximum roster capacity and the demand for our female teams continues to grow steadily.  In addition to the growing interest within our own membership, we have families from other ice sports looking to make a switch into hockey.  We also have families from neighboring Associations whose daughters are interested in coming to Leduc to play female hockey.  Thus, it is entirely possible that we will have more demand than we have female roster spots available.

As such, it is extremely important that if a girl wishes to play hockey on an all-girls team in Leduc, she should register AS SOON AS registration opens on May 15.  We intend to offer roster spots on a first come first serve basis.

Here are some very important changes to be aware of:

  1.  Registration Dates:   From May 15 - July 1, registration for LMHA's female teams will only be available for girls residing within LMHA boundaries. (This includes females from Leduc who have not previously played hockey.)   On July 2, LMHA will begin accepting female registrations from girls from 'neighbouring' associations who want to play female hockey in Leduc.   CAUTION:  It is possible for rosters to fill with just Leduc girls even prior to July 1.  Register early...very early... for your best chances at securing a spot.
  2. Declaring your Intention- Female vs Co-ed:   In previous years, girls were able to make their decision about playing co-ed or female AFTER participating in the co-ed evaluation process.  This year, girls will have to declare their intention to play female or co-ed at the time of registration.  This is very important for LMHA to be able to plan the number of teams in various age divisions and plan the number or players per team.
  3. Returning female athletes who register after July 1, will be subject to the late registration fee.

New for 2018-19:  LMHA Bantam Rec Female and Midget Rec Female teams will play in the Hockey Edmonton league.  There are A and B divisions in this league determined through a tiering process.  Teams in these female divisions include: Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, and Onoway.

It has not yet been finalized where the Novice, Atom and Pee Wee female teams will play.  It will be in either the Northern Alberta Interlock or in Hockey Edmonton league.  Either way, travel will be reasonable.

You may be wondering...What are the options for my daughter if the girls roster is full by the time we register?

If the female team roster in your daughter's age division is full, the following options could be explored:

  • if there are enough girls interested, additional female teams may be formed in a nearby Association that has ice available
  • playing as an underage or overage player on a female team in a different age division
  • being offered a one-year transfer to play in the 'next closest Association' that offers a female team in her age division
  • playing co-ed hockey in her age division in LMHA...where we will endeavor to keep equal skilled girls playing on a co-ed team with other girls.
